Fun Enrichment and Exercise for Dogs

Enrichment and exercise for dogs is such an important part of providing for your dogs developmental needs.  Just like us they can get bored and try to find their own fun. So be creative, use some of my ideas and provide the enrichment and exercise your dog needs instead of leaving the choice up to them.

There are many ways to enrich your dog’s life. Some easy convenient ways are to provide
dog toys that challenge your dog and make use of some of their natural
instincts. Some of the best dog toys around are
interactive and treat dispensing toys. These toys let the dog work for their food while also providing something to chew.

The
Kong is a great interactive toy.  It can be stuffed with food so your dog has to work to get the food out while also satisfying the need to chew.  Try freezing
some peanut butter in the Kong and your dog will be entertained for hours.  Kong has introduced a new toy called the
Kong Wobbler it is a treat dispensing toy
you can fill it with your dogs Kibble and he will  work for a long time to get his meal.
Some other fun treat dispensing toys are the Treatstik, Bob a Lot, and the Canine
Genius.

Check out some of the
Toys that I recommend for your dog.

Other ways to provide enrichment and exercise is by playing games with your dog.
Hide and Seek can be played with either hiding a toy and you have your dog find it or you can hide then call your dog to find you.

Tug of War is a great game that your dog will love but be sure your dog knows drop it and the game ends if at any their teeth touch your skin.

Tricks are also another way to challenge your dog.  Some fun tricks are rollover, touch, give me a kiss, shake, and playing dead dog.

Chasing and retrieving games are also another way to exercise your dog.  Throw a toy or ball and have your dog get it and bring it back to you.  If your stuck indoors throw the ball down the stairs and have your dog bring it back to you.  This is a quick way to tire out your dog.

Recall games call you dog from different rooms in the house.  Call your dog back and forth between two people.

Training is great way to add enrichment to your dogs life.  Practice obedience commands with your dog.

Sent Work hide your dogs kibble or dog treats around the house or outside and tell the dog to go get it. This is one that I use often with my own dogs and they love it.
I hope you see that it is not difficult to provide
enrichment and exercise for your dog.  It is a great way to have fun and to share time with your dog.
Remember a tired dog is a good dog!
