Dog training for your pet dog is teaching them how to interact and live in our world. Today’s pet dogs are more of an important part of our lives than ever before. Our dogs are in our house, sleep in our beds, go with us everywhere and are a big part of our family now. So they need skills and training to match their new roles and we need the education to understand what we can expect from our pet dogs.
Behavior Problems
Where people have behavior problems is that they forget that their dog is a dog. They put human motives and emotions on their dog’s actions. They expect their dog to behave and entertain themselves for eight or more hours a day while at work. Then when something happens like the dog chews that table leg while you are gone you think the dog is getting back at you for leaving them all day.
Then you come home and yell at your dog for its mess. The dog hides from you and runs away. You think this is because the dog knows he was bad and is guilty
for his mess.

It is not possible for a dog to have a motive of revenge or to have emotions of guilt. Your dog chewed the table leg while you were gone because chewing is
normal dog behavior and there was nothing else to do or to chew on and she was bored. When your dog hides or runs away when you yell at them when you come
home it’s not guilt it’s because you are scary running around screaming like a crazy person.
So what do you do? You want that happy well mannered dog that you imaged when you brought them home. First you need to understand what normal dog behavior is and what your dog is capable of. Then you need to teach your dog the skills to live in your house.
Enrichment and Exercise
Pet dogs are just like us they need enrichment and exercise daily to not be bored. Think if you were left alone in the house for eight hours without a TV, a phone, your computer, a book, exercise or anything to do. Do you think you would get a little bored? You would probably nap all day and when your wife or husband came home be really happy and excited to see them.
This is the same for your dog. When you come home they go nuts, jumping, barking, running around wanting your attention. Now do you understand why they act so crazy? Most pet dogs are very bored, lack enrichment, training and exercise.
Earlier I said it’s possible to have a happy, well mannered, and trained dog. It can be if you have a commitment to understand your dogs normal behavior, provide
training, exercise and enrichment on a daily bases for your pet dog.
