Canine Good Citizen

AKC offers two programs for the pet dog owner to promote responsible pet
ownership. The first program is the Canine Good Citizen Program this is for dogs at
least six months of age or older. The second program has just recently been
introduced it is the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program for puppies.
The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program is a fun new program that encourages owners to
get off to a good start with training and education for their new puppy. The AKC
S.T.A.R. Puppy Program rewards responsible dog owners for providing training for
their puppy.
Organized training classes are the best way to socialize your dog with other dogs and
to get a strong foundation of skills for your dog or puppy. In classes that offer the AKC
S.T.A.R. Program for puppy’s, basic obedience will be taught as well as information
on all the puppy issues including housetraining, chewing, and coming when called.
After completing a Basic Obedience class taught by AKC Approved CGC Evaluator
your puppy will be eligible to take the AKC S.T.A.R. test. After passing the test you
may enroll in the S.T.A.R. program.
Then your puppy will receive the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Metal and be listed in the
AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy records. You will also receive the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy
package that includes:
A beautiful, frame able certificate designating your puppy is in the AKC S.T.A.R.
Puppy records at the AKC.
* AKC Puppy Handbook.
* Discount to enroll in AKC Companion Animal Recovery Corporation, a 24-hour
recovery service.
* Ongoing Monthly Email Newsletter: Your AKC. This includes training tips and up-to-
date information every dog owner needs to know.
The AKC wants you and your puppy to continue learning beyond puppy classes. After
the S.T.A.R. Program you and your dog can participate in the AKC Canine Good
Citizen Test.
CGC is a certification program that is designed to reward dogs who have good
manners at home and in the community.
All Paws Pet Training offers both the AKC S.T.A.R Program and the AKC Canine
Good Citizen Program.
